Water Meters
Village Code:
A. Meter Required: No free service from the water system shall be furnished to any person or property. Every customer of the water system shall have a remote meter reader and a service connection to said system.
8-1-9: METERS:
H. Meter Failure: Whenever any meter, by reason of its being out for repair, or for any cause, fails promptly to register the water passing through it, the user shall be charged at the rate shown for the corresponding time of the previous year under like conditions. If no record of the previous year exists, then it shall be the duty of the village staff to estimate or to determine, so far as they can, the amount of water consumed during the time such meter failed to operate, and the consumer shall pay the amount so estimated.
Occasionally a water meter will fail and needs to be replaced. Generally this is evident when an actual meter reading of zero (0) or an estimate is received for two or more months. When either of these readings are obtained for 2 (two) or more months, you may receive a bill in the amount of 20 thousand gallons.
Meter replacement is done at no cost. If you believe your meter has failed please call 630-466-4507 ext. 11 to schedule a replacement.
Water costs money-don't waste it
A dripping faucet or fixture can waste 3-gallons a day for a total of 1,095 gallons a year. The chart below shows how much water is wasted for a continuous leak from holes of varying sizes over a 3-month period.

There are simple steps you can do to check for leaks yourself.
Place a dye strip or a few drops of food coloring (kool-aid can be used) in the toilet tank. Wait 5 minutes and if the coloring disappears you have a leak. Dye strips can be obtained at the Municipal Center or by calling the Utility Billing Department at 630/466-4507 ext. 11.
