Road Improvements In and Around Sugar Grove
Spring brings us rain showers, colorful flowers, budding trees, and the musical sound of birds. However, Spring is also the start of road construction season. Unlike the welcomed sights and sounds of Spring; the sights and sounds of road construction can be frustrating. This year travelers may encounter more construction than usual due to a stimulus package called the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
Throughout the U.S., travelers’ are likely to see the effects of ARRA as they maneuver past roadwork. Many projects will start as soon as the weather breaks. President P. Sean Michels asks, “For patience as you travel in and around the Village during this year’s construction season. Many road improvement projects are ready to begin not only in Sugar Grove but throughout Illinois. Keep in mind that these improvements will eventually make your motoring experience safer as well as bring the infrastructure needed to aid economic development. However, for now they may necessitate finding alternate routes, watching for detours and allowing additional travel time to reach your destination.”
President Michels further stated, “In 2009 the Village of Sugar Grove will be performing normal maintenance to Village streets. This routine maintenance should not have a major affect on traffic. However, many roadways maintained by others may very well have an affect on residents and others that travel in and through the community. Please take a few moments to review the project listings so that you can be prepared, if needed, to take an alternate route. The Village will post updates and a project listing on the Village Website in addition to sending email updates.”

Kane County Department of Transportation (KDOT)
Improvements to the intersection at Bliss and Merrill Roads are scheduled to begin on April 20, 2009. This long awaited project will improve the visibility at this intersection and therefore the safety of motorists. The improvements include lowering the elevation (the hill area) and straightening out the curve at the intersection of Bliss Road and Merrill Road and installing two turn lanes; one to turn left onto Merrill when traveling northeast on Bliss and the other to turn left onto Bliss when traveling south on Merrill.
The improvements will necessitate the closing of Bliss Road at the intersection of Merrill Road for approximately 4-months. Kane County Transportation will be posting signage prior to the road closure to alert area motorists of the upcoming road closure. Completion of the project is anticipated in November of 2009. For additional information and detour information please see the attached press release, visit KDOT’s website at www.co.kane.il.us/DOT or contact Mr. Guddendorf, Senior Construction Manager, Kane County Division of Transportation at 630/816-9671.
